Post by Ramon F HerreraIs the expression "To the victor belongs the spoils" originally from
Latin?
How do I say it in Latin?

The old Romans made much of victory in war. You probably know all about how
"triumphs" were celebrated at Rome. But do you know about "spolia opima"?
They were the top spoils; a general's arms taken by a general.
Among other "spolia" were the Rostra; the speaker's platform in the Forum
Romanum from where people such as Cicero delivered orations. "Rostra" means
the curved ends of ships' prows, and the ones in Rome were captured in the
4th c BC and fixed to the brickwork on the platform.
"Victori sunt spolia" = the winner gets the spoils.
